grammy award winner & multi grammy nominated luisito quintero grew up with the latin american and african tradition of percussion. his father is just as much a percussionist as his uncle carlos nene quintero and his cousin roberto quintero . he became a member of the orquesta simfonica de venezuela , but soon appeared with ensembles such as grupo guaco and el trabuco venezolano and toured with oscar d león . he then moved to new york, where he initially worked with latin jazz musicians such as willie colón , eddie palmieri , tito puente and celia cruz . he then turned to the fusion of jazz, funk, salsa and african music and performed with george benson , herbie hancock , ravi coltrane and toshiko akiyoshi , but also with pop musicians such as gloria estefan and marc anthony. his first album “percussion maddness” was produced by louie vega & lq and was released on bbe records. now 8 years later, re-released on vega records with 4 new tracks also produced by louie vega will be released on a double pack vinyl in two parts, one a double pack 12” and the second a double pack 7” vinyl. enjoy the brazilian, jazz, african, house, & afro-cubano sounds of grand percussionist luisito quintero on this very special vinyl release

!!! 2018 repress !!! of nu guinea’s outstanding ‘world’ ep – the neapolitan duo is set to release new material on tartelet later in the year as part of the labels 10 th anniversary. the beautifully dislocated bougainvilles live lays out some warm analogue textures across a live percussion base, while the vocal edit of title track nu world ploughs a similar furrow to obscure 80’s afro-disco, with rich musical synth work over a pacey afro groove and undeniable jazz-funk flair. the flute mix passes over the vocal refrain from mix one and just gets down and wigs-out on those solos - an absolute killer! exotica dance club sounds like herbie visited the salsoul studios with his banks of analogue gear and jammed out into the small hours, as we head home on the beatless outro, all synth washes and lavish ear candy.

as one of the most prolific hip hop producers of all time madlib collaborated with different artists and recorded own songs under different pseudonyms. during his outstanding year 2003 he released the crown on his work, the remix album shades of blue. the album untinted contains the source material for the project and is a fantastic intro to compare all the material from both recordings. it s a great dose of jazz in which madlib focuses on the soul and jazz stuff he used for the recordings. with songs by among others herbie hancock, horace silver and donald byrd the 12-track album gives you an indication of the way madlib created his pieces. pressing on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

word of advice to funk lovers, there is not a minute to lose. get on board of the big hustle’s spaceship. before we take off, let s do a little history. the band was founded in 2014 by bass player and composer sébastien levanneur and its aim is to bring together 70 s old school funk with the hippest actual sound laced with influences spanning from steely dan and headhunters, to snarky puppy and soulive. with mighty horn players, a rock and funky rhythm section, the big hustle s music has a very large variety of soundscapes. the first destination takes us to the washington, d.c. area with “turn up”. the groove is clearly go-go music flavored with the trademark sound of cowbells and of course it reminds us of zapp by the use of the talk box on lead vocals, performed here by saad el garrab. and don t miss out shaun martin (snarky puppy, erykah badu, kirk franklin amongst others) as a very special guest performing the talk box solo! second stop is “a curse, a blessing”. it’s an instrumental very much in the freddie hubbard vein during his cti years. the last leg of the a side ends with an instrumental interlude titled “flying donut”. double tribute to jay dee and flying lotus, the music is a simple hip hop loop based on samples. the b side takes us back into the past with two brilliant covers, involving rod temperton the late great british songwriter who scored some of michael jackson s biggest hits. now the idea for this b side is to do the opposite approach from the a side. taking 70 s and 80 s original music and make them travel into time to 2018. we first land with a heatwave song named “the star of a story” from their 1976 central heating album. track 2 is a herbie hancock song named “gettin to the good part” from his 1982 lite me up lp. this time traveler ep journey ends with an interlude. called “gimme dat”, the song deals with the need of new music, new sound. again, this blend of deep rooted funk laced with a contemporary edge is to be consumed without moderation. and do not forget that e.p. also stands for extended pleasure.

dj vas is primarily known as a member of pioneering 90s french house band, kojak. when the 1.0 french touch wave was blowing the world, kojak was one of the fourth most popular acts in france alongside daft punk, air or cassius. they built a strong reputation with more than 25 singles, 2 albums, 1 dj compilation and more than 30 remixes with amongst them the famous one for “deep inside” by mary j blidge. now more focused on his solo career, this talented dj, producer and beatmaker maintains a stylish wide musical vision, and manages to find the perfect balance between styles. for this specific project, dj vas practiced the very special game of soul-funk and disco edits. following the recent acclaimed release of his re-edits & more vol.1 (edr017), he’s now back on edr records with a second volume even hotter: 4 new tracks made for the dancefloor, finely cut and re-produced in complete new versions!! his production is a brilliant mix between fine techniques, deep respect of the originals and real personality. and with their new fixed tempo, these forgotten treasures should quickly find a new life close to modern productions. in short, dj vas music is contagious, warm and always sharp!!

local talk are honoured to welcome trevor lawrence jr. with a cv that reads the who s who in the music scene today, lawrence s performance and recording credits include herbie hancock, stevie wonder and quincy jones to name a few. tiptoe is taken from trevor s debut solo record, relationships , released in 2017. on this 7- - the very first on local talk - we re re-releasing the original together with a remix by dj spinna. on the a side the brooklyn legend applies his magic touch to tiptoe , combining warm and soulful vibes with a house touch. a must-have for not only for the soulful house heads but also anyone that loves quality in music.

kingswood drive and accidental return were an early teaser of this new set. displaying their signature analogue sounds and arpeggios, alongside broken beats and soul, you wouldn t be alone in hearing the influences of dam funk, herbie hancock or bugz in the attic coming through on these two. elsewhere more jittery, playful rhythms underpin croydon rooftop café culture. as well as in the calming and ethereal prints on the heath, a subtle tribute to mutual hero prince, who passed away on the unusually prolific day this and two other, currently unreleased, tracks were written and recorded. throughout the ep the duo nod at their london home from the -heath- to kingswood drive and more obviously croydon itself. the sound of south london is threaded throughout this record with pride. even down to the mechanical sunset sound of ep finale thorns, capturing some of the essence of the studio view over london from their high point on the hill in thornton heath. the first ep from albert s favourites co-founders and synth-production duo modified man focused on throwing out heavy editing, recording music with as few processes as possible and grabbing performances as single takes. blending warped cassette recordings that touched upon early jazz-funk/brit-funk influences with the energy of broken beat and experimental electronica, won them support from patrick forge, osunlade, thris tian, yam who? and titeknots to name a few. since that release they premiered new track thorns live on boiler room, going on to deliver a full, three-hour live performance and dj set for the infamous global community. they also provided remixes for dele sosimi, amp fiddler, makadem & behr and hector plimmer, meanwhile, busily preparing a series of four, six-track vinyl eps which will be released over the next 18 months.

arkansas native, lee moore moved to memphis in 1975 with only one goal in mind: to make it big in the music industry and to release music that would be played in new york, l.a and everywhere in between. as a singer and songwriter lee moore spent the 1980s collaborating in memphis with the best of the best session musicians and vocalists from labels like volt and stax records to record and release futuristic boogie, soul, and funk. lee moore unfortunately never got close to reach his goals of fame and fortune. for the first time, past due records is reissuing lees incredible free & easy lp which was only released as a handful of test pressings in 1981 because lee thought the record was too good to release on his score records label. it is a pure memphis modern soul / boogie funk masterpiece that features countless artists from the stax crew, al greens vocalists and even herbie hancocks keyboard player. the 1981 test pressing has commanded huge sums of money on the used vinyl market and is one for the real soul connoisseur

growing up in the bustling port city of busan and running his own record shop there from the late 70s, kim byoung duk had a front-row seat to the finest in foreign record imports and a taste for the psychedelic that naturally evolved into spiritual, ambient and avant-garde sounds. his growing interest in tao philosophy and the meditative music that accompanied it provided a fertile environment for his audio imagination. unhampered by limited access to musical gear, he made use of a wide assortment of self- sourced pots of various sizes and curvature, cymbals, wooden sculpted flutes and percussion tools—each chosen for its unique harmonic vibration—to create an entirely new and unique body of work. experiment no. x retraces the oeuvre of kim byoung duk, assembling tracks from experiment no. 2, pot concerto and new trilogy, illustrating a meditative journey from the freeness of the tao sound, in the borders of ambient music and the avant-garde, to later groove-oriented jams which introduce rhythmic elements to the palate. this fully licensed release is the first collection of kim byoung duk ,s music, remastered from the original tapes and including for the first time on vinyl songs from the very scarce cd new morning. includes four-page booklet with photographs and an interview from kim ,s personal archives
